Valeriy Kalyagin is a Professor in Applied Mathematics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod, where he is also a Head of the International Laboratory of Algorithms and Technologies for Network Analysis (LATNA). He graduated in applied mathematics from Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) State University in 1974. In 1980 he completed PhD program in mathematics at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) under supervision of professor Evgueny Nikishin, and defended his Candidate es Science(PhD) thesis in complex approximation at MSU in 1981. He obtained his Doctor es Science (Habilitation) degree from MSU in 1995.

Valeriy Kalyagin held visiting professor and research fellow positions at Lille University (France), INSA de Rouen (France), Toulon University (France), THF Berlin (Germany), University of Hannover (Germany), Carlos III University (Madrid, Spain). He is author of more than 70 international publications and of 1 monograph in Springer. He serves as Editor of 8 collective monographs at Springer, and as Guest Editor of special issues of international journals “Optimization Methods and Software” and “Optimization Letters”. In 2018 he was awarded the status of Distinguished Professor of National Research University Higher School of Economics.
